General Purpose:

The Dietary Aide assists in the preparation of food for patients, residents and employees. The Dietary Aide also prepares and delivers food trays to hospital patients, performs combination of trayline duties, delivers food carts to specified areas and maintains kitchen work areas, equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition.

Essential Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

2. Ability to perform a head to toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and the general patient population.

3. Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interprets the results.

4. Accurately assigns triage categories.Read production orders to determine items to be placed on tray.
Prepares food items such as sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages.
Apportions and places food servings on plates and trays according to diet list on menu cards.
Places servings in blender to make foods for soft, liquid or pureed diets.
Works tray line stations as scheduled.
Places items such as eating utensils, napkins and condiments on trays.
Examines filled tray for completeness and places on cart.
Delivers food carts to patient or resident areas as specified. Returns carts to dish room at designated times.
Loads and operates dishwashing machine for both patient/resident and non-patient/resident dishes.
Cleans and sanitizes pots and pans.
Washes dishes and cleans work area, tables, cabinets and ovens.
Collects trash and garbage from areas within the department. Sanitizes garbage and trash containers. Keeps disposal area clean.
Washes and cleans fruits and vegetables.

Skills and Abilities Required

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
Basic math skills are required.
Able to apply basic reasoning skills.

Education and Experience Required

Must possess a current health card.
High school or equivalency and prior food service experience.
